Analysis of the potential of acid mine drainage generation from the neutralized coal mining tailings

Mining activities specifically Coal have been long testified to be one of the major contributing factors environmental crisis, with Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) as leading indicators. The purpose this study was assess potential AMD generation from neutralized coal mining tailings. In order achieve ultimate objective study, analysis chemical composition and mineral content tailings using XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) XRD Diffraction) respectively, lastly, a static such ABA (Acid Base Accounting) TCLP (Toxic Characteristic Leaching Procedure) were also conducted. results shown that studied tailing samples had relatively higher Potential (19 kg CaCO3/t 20 CaCO3/t) versus Neutralizing (NP) (14 18 CaCO3/t). It found Net Ratio (NNPR) is less than zero (-1.5 -5.40 which indicates generate acid. low concentration CaO acidic because buffering mineral. Based on it concluded Tailings has acid; therefore, contamination nearby watercourses extremely possible if necessary remedial actions should considered.
